Maruti Suzuki S-Cross: Top 5 Rivals | Competitors

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross:- This year has been quite a busy year for the Indo-Japanese car maker, Maruti Suzuki. Starting off with the launch of the Ignis hatchback followed by the Baleno RS and the Nexa Blue colour variant of the Ciaz. Also, the Ciaz got under the Nexa wing among premium cars. In short, the company has been pretty active this year to strengthen its position further in the market.

Getting into the last quarter, Maruti Suzuki is busy with the preparations for the mega launch of the face-lifted Maruti S-Cross. The S-Cross was the first product to have been a part of the Nexa outlet and thus we know how much of premiumness the company has built it with.

The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is slated to go on sale in India in the festive season. With just a few more weeks to go before the launch takes place, it might be interesting to take a look into the insights and find out the top five rivals the S-Cross will face once it is launched.

Top 5 Rivals – Maruti Suzuki S-Cross Competitors

Best SUV Car In India – Ford EcoSport (Rs. 7.21 lakhs)

Ford EcoSport has been a sporty SUV since it was in its first generation. It holds a very butchy body, especially the front section that holds a large hood and the attractive hexagonal grille. It is a subcompact crossover and has a total length below the 4-metre mark.

The Ford EcoSport is powered by a 1.5-litre diesel and petrol engine. The diesel motor makes a maximum power of 99 bhp along with a peak torque of 205 Nm. On the other hand, the petrol engine has a higher power of 110 bhp along with a peak torque of 140 Nm. Apart for these two, the crossover has a 1.0-litre turbocharged EcoBoost petrol engine on offer which is the most powerful in the lot. It is capable of making a maximum power of 124 bhp and a peak torque of 170 Nm.

Tata Nexon latest SUV Car In India -(Rs 5.85 lakhs)

The Tata Nexon crossover is the latest addition to the segment. It measures below the 4-metre mark but packs a punch into its competitors. The car is extremely feature-rich and is a great value for all the money it is available for.

The Tata Nexon is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine which can make a maximum power of 108 bhp and a peak torque of 170 Nm. It is also available with a 1.5-litre diesel engine which makes the same 108 bhp of power but a higher torque of 260 Nm.

SUV Car In India -Honda WR-V (Rs. 7.67 lakhs)

The Honda WR-V is just some months old in the Indian automobile market but has already grossed up a good figure in the sales chart. The WR-V is a very edgy car and has a lot of character lines and sharp curves all over the body.

The Honda WR-V is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine which produces a maximum power of 89 bhp and the highest torque of 110 bhp. Along with this, there is also a 1.5-litre diesel engine on offer which makes a maximum power of 99 bhp and a maximum torque of 200 Nm. As for the transmission, the car is offered with a manual transmission only, with no automatic unit offered yet.

Renault Duster Most Popular SUV car in India – (Rs. 8.43 lakhs)

The Renault Duster is full-sized SUV and is one of the most popular cars in the company’s India line-up. The Duster looks good on the outside and is pleasantly comfortable on the inside. It has a very uncanny design language of a butch front mated to a softly designed rear.

The Renault Duster is available in a 1.5-litre diesel and a 1.5-litre petrol engine. However, the diesel engine is available in two state of trims, one making 108 bhp power and 248 Nm torque while the other making 85 bhp power and 200 Nm torque. On the other hand, the petrol engine makes a maximum power of 105 bhp along with a peak torque of 142 Nm.

Hyundai Creta Perfect SUV Car in India (Rs. 9.29 lakhs)

How many times have you heard the Creta being a perfect SUV? The Creta is a touch smaller in length than the S-Cross but is more than a tough competitor. In fact, it is the most powerful car in this list and has a good design as well.

The Hyundai Creta is available with a 1.6-litre petrol engine which makes a maximum power of 122 bhp along with a peak torque of 154 Nm. On the other hand, the smaller 1.4-litre diesel engine makes 89 bhp power and 224 Nm torque. However, the bigger 1.6-litre diesel engine makes a highest power of 126 bhp along with a peak torque of 265 Nm.

What about the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross?

The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross looks premium, just like the outgoing generation. It is longer than four metres which hints that it is not a subcompact by any means.

That said, the S-Cross is not sufficiently powerful as you would expect an SUV to be. The company has discontinued the bigger 1.6-litre diesel engine. Hence, now the car will be available in just the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine which makes a highest power of just 89 bhp and a maximum torque of 200 Nm. As for the transmission, there is just that one 5-speed manual gearbox unit across all the variants.

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross (petrol) New Model  – Bookings Open

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross (petrol) to launch soon, bookings open – Mechanically, the new BS6 Maruti Suzuki S-Cross petrol will come powered by a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine, which is also seen on the Ciaz sedan. The unit will come clubbed with a five-speed manual or four-speed torque convertor unit.

The crossover will also get a smart key with push-button start, and a new 7-inch Smartplay Studio 2.0 system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support.

For safety, Maruti Suzuki S-Cross (petrol) will have twin airbags, and rear parking sensors.

The verdict

The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is a premium car from the company no doubt. It looks premium (the new version does a lot more), feels premium, but there has always been that one complaint that everyone had from the car. It does not have very wide options to choose from. Firstly, it lacks a petrol variant. Secondly, it is not offered with an automatic gearbox yet. Moreover, with the company not including the 1.6-litre engine in the line-up, the car now lacks the power boost. One thing is for sure, the S-Cross has the least powerful engine in the whole lot and for a car that is 4.3 metres long, and this isn’t great news.
